Minority, Not Speaker, Halted Vetting Chaos Probe – Emmanuel Bedzrah Clarifies
In a recent interview, Emmanuel Bedzrah, the Chairman of the special committee investigating the vetting chaos, has clarified that it was not Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, but rather the Minority, who layed a key role in the decision to suspend the committee’s proceedings.
What Led to the Suspension of the Vetting Chaos Probe?
On Wednesday, February 5, the committee investigating the vetting issues suspended its hearings indefinitely, leaving many puzzled about the reasons behind the move. Initially, Chairman Bedzrah had stated that the suspension was based on instructions from the Clerk of Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, who indicated that the Speaker would provide further guidance.
However, in an interview with Channel One Newsroom, Bedzrah cleared up the confusion and revealed that the Minority was the driving force behind halting the proceedings.
Bedzrah’s Account of the Events
Mr. Bedzrah explained that after the events of the committee meeting, he had met with the Clerk of Parliament, the two Deputy Speakers, and other key leaders in the Speaker’s lobby to discuss the situation. It was at this meeting that he learned the Speaker had allegedly issued an instruction to suspend the proceedings, but Bedzrah quickly found discrepancies in the information.
“I was told that the Speaker had given instructions,” Bedzrah explained. “But upon calling the Speaker, who was traveling at the time, I was informed that the Speaker had not given any such directive.”
The Chairman further elaborated that he had spoken to the Speaker directly, who denied issuing any order to stop the vetting process. Instead, the Speaker had emphasized that the Clerk of Parliament should continue its work. This clarification led Bedzrah to conclude that the decision to halt the committee’s proceedings was not from the Speaker, but rather from the Minority.
The Way Forward for the Vetting Chaos Probe
Given the confusion, Bedzrah stated that the committee had already suspended the proceedings, and the next steps would depend on the Speaker’s return. He highlighted that once the Speaker is back, specific instructions would be provided to guide the continuation of the investigation.
“We are in a holding pattern until the Speaker returns and provides concrete instructions,” Bedzrah stated.
This latest clarification from Emmanuel Bedzrah sheds light on the internal dynamics that led to the suspension of the vetting chaos probe. With the Minority playing a central role, and the Speaker’s involvement now clarified, all eyes will be on the committee’s next steps once the Speaker provides further guidance.
