A Former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Koku Anyidoho has wondered why independent presidential candidate Alan Kyerematen has problems with former President John Agyekum Kuffuor for endorsing the candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
Koku reminded Alan that he is no longer a member of the NPP but Mr Kuffuor is, therefore it is in order for Mr Kufuor to campaign for his candidate.
It was ok for President Kufuor to root for him in the past but it is a sin for President Kufuor to root for Bawumia huh? You are no longer an NPP member so what is your problem?” Koku asks on X platform.
Alan Kyerematen has said former President, John Agyekum Kufuor has caused a blemish on his political career for endorsing the NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
The former NPP member explained that Kuffuor’s act has paved way for political foot soldiers to disrespect him despite his distinguished career.
“What he has done has created a big blot on his political career. You see how people are speaking against him. See how others are disrespecting him. For someone with a distinguished career in politics and everyone respect you.
“How do you now involve yourself in such matters and now everybody criticizes you anyhow,” Alan said. He advised the revered statesman to refrain from making any further comment as such.
“I can’t disrespect him. He is like an uncle to me. What he is doing is not right, he should stop it. He is the only person who knows why he is saying such things,” Alan added.
Speaking to journalists on Sunday, Novemebr 17 Kufuor expressed confidence in the ability of Dr Bawumia to govern the country.
Mr Kuffuor indicated that Ghana’s economy will be transformed if the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is elected as president in this year’s general elections.
Mr Kuffuor noted that has the potential to accelerate Ghana’s economic development.
“I have observed his remarkable abilities in economic enhancement during my tenure, as he was integral to the Bank of Ghana’s team under Governor Dr. Paul Acquah, contributing to the revival of the currency,” he said.
Meanwhile, a leading spokesperson for Former President John Dramani Mahama, Felix Kwakye Ofosu says John Agyekum Kufuor is duty-bound to defend his party and campaign for the flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
He noted that Mr Kufuor’s utterances do not mean that Ghanaians will automatically vote for the NPP.
“The consummate Danquah-Busia man that he is, President Kufour, is duty bound to defend his party and campaign for its candidate. It doesn’t mean the electorate accepts his narrative. The NPP has been utter rubbish in government and must be thrown out!” he tweeted on Monday, November 18.
